The New Palace, which you see before you, was built from 1816 - 1819 as a residence for the princes of the House of Hohenzollern-Hechingen.

The previous building in this position was a grand Renaissance palace with four wings, that was lauded for being the most beautiful palace in Swabia. The palace was called "Friedrichsburg" and Eitel Frederick I, Count of Hohenzollern-Hechingen, had it built from 1577 - 1595. This is where the famous Hohenzollern Wedding took place in 1598. Over 1000 guests were invited and the festivities lasted an entire week.

Just over two hundred years later, the Renaissance grandeur of Count Eitel Frederick I had passed and the palace became increasingly run down. In 1814 it was finally torn down. The New Palace, which was built in its place, remained unfinished and was never inhabited by members of the dynasty. The epitome of a classic construction that you see before you today was – apart from the facade – rebuilt in 1982 and is now home to the headquarters of Sparkasse Zollernalb bank.
